Monster Hands is a story about being gentle while feeling big emotions. 

Excitement, anger, frustration, and sadness can sometimes be overpowering, and the message in this book serves as a reminder to stay calm, even when big feelings inspire extreme reactions.

Excitement sometimes leads to aggressive hugs or tugging on fragile arms.  Anger sometimes leads to throwing things or hitting loved ones.  Frustration sometimes leads to tantrums or making a mess. Sadness sometimes leads to self-sabotage or breaking things.

All of these extreme reactions are just  unexpressed emotions—they are feelings in physical form. 

The lesson in this book teaches kids to use their words—not their hands—to share what they’re feeling. When monster hands emerge, instead of letting them take control, it’s best to shake them out, take a deep breath, and start over with  calm words and calm hands.

The monster is not our enemy,  it is our friend, and it’s there to let us know that we have feelings that need to be shared.
